What is this event about?
TED is all about BIG ideas
“There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come” Victor Hugo
TED is all about ideas worth spreading – and what ideas could be more worth spreading than the solutions we have for global warming? The global TED event will be sharing a whole day’s worth of exciting ideas on 10th October 2020 – with FREE online streaming. Then we’ll have our turn on 15th October, adding great ideas for local solutions from some of Australia’s leading climate innovators – with FREE online streaming.
Australia has awesome solutions
The Australian presenter applications we’ve received are amazing – we’ve been flooded with a wealth of inspiring ideas (mostly actionable today). They’re ideas that go way beyond “be a good little consumer and lobby the government”. TED is about great ideas, not the reputation or prestige of known “authorities”. So at TEDxDarlinghurst we’re going to share the best and brightest ideas we can find – we have a diverse range of speakers with truly powerful ideas for the Australian context.
We had enough quality, diverse applications to run 12 months of events – so picking our 9 speakers has been some serious fun.
How do we flourish the BEST ideas for solving global warming?
The core question of global warming is “How do we have an environment that creates flourishing for all?” So we asked ourselves “How can TEDxDarlinghurst reflect true flourishing?”
We’re starting with the best ideas from great presenters, in an awesome environment. And adding the best food, the best entertainment, the best art – and streaming it FREE online on multiple platforms so that everyone can hear them and be inspired.
We’re creating a community for action, not just an event
The economic case for reversing climate is compelling – the evidence is mounting that it’s full of job creation, community development and business innovation.
And the social case is even better – because “doing the right thing for climate change” also makes a fairer world for everyone – reducing poverty and increasing equality as well as regenerating ecosystems.
The TED October 2020 events are just the beginning – both for Sydney and globally. They’re the start of 12 months of events and programs for individuals, communities and workplaces.
WE can change climate change
What we’ve learned at TEDxDarlinghurst is that “ordinary people” in “ordinary communities” and “ordinary businesses” are already starting to change climate change. They’re using everything from crowd funding to marine permaculture to make a better, safer, fairer future.
