What was it like for Juan to get a TEDX license and organize the event in less than 3 months?
It was just a few short weeks ago that we heard the good news. Our application to TED for the Sydney event We Can Change Climate Change had been accepted!
TED Media is mobilising for climate solutions - with 12 months of events leading up to the next COP meeting on Climate in Scotland in November 2021. They’re kicking off globally on October 10th with a full-day event that anyone around the world can watch online - for FREE countdown.ted.com. And around the world, local groups like ours are joining the party. So there we were, with the licence to deliver TEDxDarlinghurst! We were super excited – and just a little bit overwhelmed.
We’d signed up to deliver an event on 15th October - in just 10 short weeks! And to deliver it to TED’s stringent standards. And at a time when running ANY event is seriously challenging.
It was going to be a busy 10 weeks!
But it’s been magic...
It’s been absolutely amazing. We’ve been overwhelmed with generosity – with help and support for everything from venues to menus. People don’t just want to “give a bit” – they want to help as much as they possibly can. We’ve had enthusiastic support from our venue – but also from tech companies, musicians, caterers, communities, artists, designers and a whole lot more.
Many of those worst hit by COVID-19 are the most passionate about volunteering to be part of a TED event on accelerating climate solutions. Judging by the explosion of support we’re getting, the demand for actionable solutions is absolutely massive – and ready to go critical.
